Appearance
Cap
Young caps are bell-shaped to convex, maturing to broadly convex to nearly flat, and in old age becoming flat with uplifted margins. The cap is sticky/viscid in damp weather, smooth when dry, sometimes cracking in old age.
Stem
White to pale yellow stem, often widening towards a clavate (club-shaped) base. Smooth above the ring, slightly fibrous below. Large, radially grooved/wrinkled ring (cogwheel appearance) typically positioned in the upper third of the stem.
